Let Us Celebrate MSV's Music

Mellisai Mannar MSV

Everyday, millions of people all over the world listen to his songs. Many people become emotional while listening to his songs even after listening to them hundreds of times over the past several years. Songs composed by him from 30 to 60 years back still retain their freshness and unique flavor. Great musicians like Balamurali Krishna, Maharajapuram Santhanam, Aruna Sairam, GS Mani, Sudha Raghunathan  etc. have admired his music.

Hundreds of people listening to his songs discover new nuances and wonder how they missed the particular nuance during the innumerable times they listened to the songs earlier. Yet, they know that they are likely to stumble upon more musical wonders in the same song in future!

For example, I recently came across an observation by a music analyst that he found that a flute piece in the song ‘yaarumillai inge’ from the film ‘’Panaththukkaaga’  carried a tone of mystery. He wondered why. First I thought it could be because there was a murder in the film and a mystery surrounding it. Afterwards, it struck me that the lyric sensitive composer that he is, MSV would have introduced this piece by looking at the beginning line ‘yaarumillai inge’ which suggests an element of secrecy!  We may never be able to assert what the right reason is. But finding such nuances in this song after nearly 40 years is exciting.

Experts, people who have learnt music, people who have listened to various kinds of music including international music pore over MSV’s creations trying to decipher his cryptic musical notes.
Some of us have felt the need for a forum to celebrate the music of one of the greatest composers of our times. After interacting and deliberating for several years, we have zeroed in on the idea of a twofold approach by way of paying a tribute to the Mellisai Mannr, befitting his extraordinary contributions to the world of film music (his reach has gone beyond film music though)

1)      by bringing out the beauty of his creations and enhancing our own enjoyment of his music in the process   and
2)      by perpetuating his memory through various means.

For fulfilling the above objectives, a forum has been created with the name Mellisai Mannar Fans Association (MMFA). To ensure that this will be a perpetual entity and that there will be transparency and accountability, this has been registered as a trust with the name MMFA Trust.
We are interested in bringing together the rasikas of MSV from all over the world.  So, if you have been enthralled by MSV’s music, we invite you to join us. Even if you have not listened to much of MSV’s music but still feel intrigued by the question ‘What is so great about MSV’s music?’ you are welcome to join us!

Here is the video of our program with Chitralaya Gopu as a sample of our activity. You can listen to the amazing things he shares about his experience with MSV and Sridhar
